In the year of 2004, the P90x commercial campaign began, and since then, there have been over 2 million people who have used the program. It has been criticized by many, and the results that the people got from participating in the program for the full 90 days were nothing less than outstanding.
Whether you are looking to lose weight or build muscle, P90x is definitely a great program to try. But why exactly has the P90X workout program been so successful? The answer to this question in my opinion is that it utilizes muscle confusion.
For those of you that do not know what muscle confusion is, let me try to explain it as simply as I can. If you are someone that never works out, and then one day decided to go to the gym and hit the iron for about an hour, the next day your muscles are going to be really sore.
Now your muscles are going to recover and if you keep doing the same old reps and workouts, eventually your body is going to get used to it and the muscle soreness is going to decrease.
Now with the P90x program, you will be doing a total of 12 different workouts within the 90 days, all of them targeting different muscle groups. For the first month for example, you will be doing 5-6 of these workouts, and then as soon as your body is beginning to adapt to the workouts and the muscle movements, some of the workouts change drastically.
Not only that you have the ability to intensify the workouts if you choose. This could be taking shorter breaks between workout sets. The standard rest time is about 30 seconds, for the beginner though, you may need to hit pause on the dvd for a minute or two while you gather your breath, there is nothing wrong with doing that.
For example one week you may use the bands for your shoulders and arms, while another week you may be using the free weights. Another reason that muscle confusion is good and beneficial, is because you are not going to be doing the same thing over and over again.
It’s hard to stay motivated if you are doing the same thing every single week in and week out. So with that being said, muscle confusion is the main reason that P90X delivers better results than any other workout program that is out there on the market today. Even after you finish the program, if you still want to stay in the shape of your life, you can just repeat the program, as your muscles will not be able to adapt in a months time, and you will keep getting outstanding results when using P90X.
