Boxing Your Way To Fitness

by fitnessd on February 12, 2011

Ever wanted to get in great shape, without the boring routine workouts? Then you may want to try boxing as a way to keep in fitness. I am not talking about going to the gym and hitting the heavy bag for 30 minutes, and then switching back to the speed bag for another 30, as that can get very boring, but I am talking about a boxing fitness program, such as a dvd instructional video.

One good example of a boxing fitness video would be the P90X Kenpo program. I will get into P90X Kenpo in further detail on a future post, just wanted to use that as an example of what cardio boxing is all about. Though this is not just boxing, but also kicks and other movements. This is more known as cardio-boxing, and it definitely gets you into shape because you are going to be burning about 400-600 calories an hour.

Most of the boxing that are taught in these videos and classes, is more like shadow boxing, or punching and defending against an imaginary opponent. You are not hitting a speed bag or punching bag when you are participating in a cardio boxing class, that is for those that are actually training for a boxing match.

Though cardio boxing can also benefit those boxers that are training for a boxing match. Though they may want to enhance the tempo of the moves a little bit faster than those on the videos, unless the videos are designed specifically for those that are training for a fight.

Not only will cardio boxing get you into great shape, there are tons of other benefits that you will get from it. Some of these are improved hand and eye coordination, hand and leg speed, more flexible muscles, better natural instincts, and if you should ever have to defend yourself, you are going to know how to throw a punch and not hurt yourself trying.

It has only been a number of years since cardio boxing has been brought in to the mainstream line of workouts. Now if you do a search for cardio boxing dvds, there are going to be literally hundreds to choose from. The reason that cardio boxing has become so popular is because of the results that you can get from participating in it a couple times a week. Not only that, you are constantly moving, usually to music, taking some 30 second water breaks here and there. Before you know it, you are sweating like crazy, breathing hard, and then the workout is done.

Just like any kind of fitness training program, you definitely want to make sure that you have been drinking plenty of water, and should not do cardio of you have eaten anything within the last hour, as this can give you cramps. So what are you waiting for? Get your dukes up and find a cardio boxing program for you today!!
